Hinesburg Area Recreational Trails (hart)

All trails are open to the public. Information regarding specific appropriate use (walking, skiing, shoeshoeing, biking and horseback riding) can be found on the Information and Driving Directions page for each area.

The links below will take you to the Trail Maps and Info/Driving Directions for each area. You can print out the documents in color, or set your printer preferance to "grayscale" to print them with black ink only.

The Hinesburg Trails Committee oversees the HART system.

>> PLEASE NOTE: Eagle's Trail Marking
In 2010 the Hinesburg Trails Committee marked the old Eagle's Trail, which makes a complete loop through the Forest to all three trailheads (Economou Road, Hayden Hill Road East, and Hayden Hill Road West) with red plastic blazes with the letter "E" painted on them. In the fall of 2011 these red plastic blazes disappeared from approximately 0.5 miles of trail starting from just beyond the Hayden Hill Road East trailhead heading east and then south toward the Economou Road trailhead. In December 2011 orange flagging labeled with the word "Eagle" was attached to tree branches along this stretch of trail as a temporary guide to trail users.

Please use a compass and trail map when hiking in the Town Forest. If you notice missing or damaged signs or blazes or other trail conditions of concern, please contact a member of the Hinesburg Trails Committee. Thank you.

Note that the Economou Road trailhead is NOT PLOWED in winter.

Isham Road/Catchapaw Road Connector Link (Google Map Link)
This trail/path connects Silver Street and Baldwin Road should only be used by experienced hikers, walkers, runners, mountain bikers, and riders and horses. If possible, go with a companion and let other people know where you are going and when you expect to return - this is always good advice.

Trail is currently not blazed but has been recently reopened (this year’s plant growth has been pruned back) and is self evident. Cell phone use is limited at best. Trail is approximately 1 mile from trailhead to trailhead and takes about 30 minutes.

Trail, east to west has wet spots at the beginning. Continue west till you come to the point where you see the old road bed veering to the right and then sloping down. Do not take this, especially if you are on a horse because you and the horse will find yourself in dangerously deep mud. Instead, go left at the orange flagging and then down which will avoid the mud. As you get near the center there may be standing water as you get close to the “stream”. This “stream” is 1’ deep and 1’wide. Once across the stream, there is a short part that may have standing water till you get to firm ground and then the trail is dry to Catchapaw Road.

Parking: You can park at the end of Isham Road or Catchapaw Road. Please do not block driveways.

Please contact Colin McNaull at 482-3347 if you have any questions or need more information.
